A neutral, editorial directory of notable hair-loss doctors practising in Singapore, grouped by sub-specialty to help you find the right expertise. This is not a ranking and not a paid listing.
How we compiled this directory
We list established, currently-practising hair-loss doctors with a clear public professional footprint, chosen to cover the main areas of hair-loss and hair restoration care — not by who pays. Profiles are compiled from public sources and we omit ratings and prices, which we cannot independently verify. This is an independent editorial selection, not an advertisement — see our editorial policy. Always verify a doctor’s current registration on the SMC public register and choose based on your own needs, your GP’s referral and your insurance.

How to choose
- Get a proper diagnosis first — hair loss has many causes (male/female pattern, telogen effluvium, scarring alopecia, medical conditions). A dermatologist can diagnose the cause; a transplant is only suitable for some types.
- Match the doctor to the problem — a dermatologist for medical hair-loss and scalp disease, a hair-transplant doctor for surgical restoration (FUE/FUT/DHI), or a medical hair-loss doctor for medication and PRP.
- Check registration on the SMC register; note that hair-transplant doctors may be GPs with focused training rather than dermatology specialists — ask about their training and approval to perform FUE/FUT.
- Costs & options — see our guides on hair transplant cost, FUE vs DHI and PRP for hair loss.

What a hair-loss doctor treats, and when to see one
Hair loss has many causes, including male and female pattern hair loss, telogen effluvium (temporary shedding after stress, illness or childbirth), scarring alopecia, autoimmune conditions and nutritional or hormonal issues. Because the right treatment depends entirely on the cause, it is worth seeing a doctor early, especially if hair loss is sudden, patchy, accompanied by scalp symptoms, or affecting your confidence. A proper diagnosis prevents spending on treatments, including surgery, that may not suit your type of loss.
What to look for when choosing a hair-loss doctor in Singapore
Different problems call for different expertise:
- For diagnosis and scalp disease: A dermatologist can identify the underlying cause and manage medical or scarring forms of hair loss.
- For surgical restoration: A doctor experienced in hair-transplant techniques (FUE, FUT or DHI) can assess whether a transplant is appropriate.
- For medication and PRP: Some doctors focus on non-surgical medical management.
Check current registration on the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) public register. Note that doctors offering hair transplants may be general practitioners with focused training rather than dermatology specialists, so ask about their training, experience and approval to perform the specific procedure.
Costs and financing
Most hair-loss treatment is considered elective or cosmetic and is paid out of pocket. Cosmetic procedures, including hair transplants and aesthetic treatments, are generally not claimable under MediSave or MediShield Life, and private insurance usually excludes them. Where hair loss is a symptom of an underlying medical condition, the investigation or treatment of that condition may be handled differently, so clarify what is included. Always obtain a clear, itemised quote before committing.
Questions to ask at your first consultation
- What is causing my hair loss, and how was that determined?
- Which treatments are realistic for my type of loss, and what results can I expect?
- If a transplant is suggested, what is your training and experience with this technique?
- What are the full costs, and is any maintenance treatment needed afterwards?
Common questions
Is a hair transplant suitable for everyone?
No. Transplants generally suit pattern hair loss with a stable donor area, and are usually not appropriate for active scarring alopecia or ongoing medical causes. A proper diagnosis comes first.
Do medications need to be taken long term?
Medical treatments for pattern hair loss often need to be continued to maintain results, as benefits can reverse if treatment stops. Discuss this with your doctor before starting.
Can stress cause hair loss?
Yes. Significant physical or emotional stress, illness or childbirth can trigger temporary shedding known as telogen effluvium, which often improves once the trigger resolves.
