What exactly is BestDoctors.sg?
BestDoctors.sg is an independent editorial directory of doctors and clinics practising in Singapore. We help you compare practitioners by specialty, sub-specialty and location so you can make a more informed choice. We are not a clinic, a hospital or a booking agency, and we do not provide medical care.
Who writes the content on this site?
Our pages are compiled and maintained by the BestDoctors.sg Editorial Team. Where we describe a doctor or clinic, we draw on official and reputable sources, including the Ministry of Health (MOH), HealthHub, the Health Promotion Board (HPB), Singapore’s public healthcare clusters, and the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and its Register of Specialists.
Are you affiliated with the doctors or clinics you list?
No. We are independent and have no ownership, partnership or commercial tie to the practices we feature. This independence is the reason our selections can stay neutral and useful.
How listings are chosen
Can a clinic pay to be listed or to rank higher?
No. Listings are neutral editorial selections, not paid placements and not rankings. We do not charge any fee to be included, and payment does not influence whether a practice appears or where it appears on a page.
How do you decide who to include?
We weigh factors such as professional registration, qualifications, sub-specialty focus, accreditation and public professional standing. We deliberately omit ratings and prices that we cannot independently verify, so that what remains is accurate and reliable.
Are the prices and figures on this site guaranteed?
No. Any indicative information is provided only to help you compare. Always confirm current fees, availability and details directly with the clinic before you commit.
How often are pages updated?
We re-review our shortlists and guides on a regular basis, and many pages carry a visible “last updated” date. Even so, registration status and clinic details can change, so we encourage you to verify anything important at the source.
Finding the right care
Do you give medical advice?
No. Nothing on BestDoctors.sg is medical advice, diagnosis or treatment. The site is for general information only. For any health concern, please consult a qualified, MOH-registered doctor who can assess your individual situation.
How do I find a specialist?
Start with our Find a Doctor directories, which are grouped by area of care and sub-specialty. Once you have a shortlist, confirm each doctor’s current registration on the SMC public register and, for specialists, check that they appear on the Register of Specialists. Choose based on your own needs and, where relevant, your GP’s referral.
What is the difference between a GP and a specialist?
A general practitioner (GP) handles everyday and undifferentiated health concerns and can manage many common conditions. A specialist has advanced training in a particular field and usually sees patients for more specific problems. In many cases it makes sense to see a GP first, who can treat you or refer you onward if specialist input is needed.
Should I choose public or private care?
Both public and private providers deliver care in Singapore. Public healthcare, delivered through the national clusters, is often more cost-managed and may offer subsidies for eligible patients, while private care can offer more choice of doctor and scheduling flexibility. The right pathway depends on your condition, urgency, budget and personal preference.
Do I need a referral to see a specialist?
It varies. A GP or polyclinic referral can help direct you to the appropriate specialist and is sometimes required for subsidised public specialist care. Many private specialists will see patients without a referral, but a referral letter still helps the specialist understand your history.
Your data and your listing
How do I correct or remove a listing about me?
If you are a doctor or clinic and would like your details corrected, updated or removed, email us at hello@bestdoctors.sg with the page link and we will attend to it. Under Singapore’s Personal Data Protection Act 2012 (PDPA), you may ask to access, correct or remove personal data we hold.
How do I suggest a clinic or doctor for inclusion?
We welcome suggestions. Email hello@bestdoctors.sg with the practice name, the doctor’s details and a link to an official source. Suggestions are reviewed against public sources, and a submission does not guarantee inclusion.
What sources do you rely on?
We rely on official and reputable bodies such as MOH, HealthHub, HPB, the public healthcare clusters, and the SMC and its Register of Specialists. We do not publish fabricated ratings, prices or credentials.
Emergencies
What should I do in a medical emergency?
BestDoctors.sg is not for emergencies. If you or someone else is seriously unwell or in danger, call 995 for an ambulance or go directly to the nearest Accident and Emergency (A&E) department.
Costs and financing
How much will it cost to see a doctor?
Fees vary widely by setting, specialty and the complexity of your case, so we do not publish guaranteed prices. As a general rule, public providers tend to be more cost-managed and may offer subsidies for eligible patients, while private fees are set by each practice. Always confirm the current charge directly with the clinic before you commit.
Can I use MediSave, MediShield Life or insurance?
This depends on the provider, the treatment and your own cover. Many treatments at approved providers can draw on national schemes within set limits, and private insurance terms differ between policies. Check with the clinic and your insurer about eligibility and any pre-authorisation before treatment, as we cannot advise on individual coverage.
Getting a referral and choosing a setting
How do I get a referral to a specialist?
Start with a GP or a polyclinic. After assessing you, the doctor can issue a referral letter directing you to a suitable specialist; for subsidised public specialist care a referral is often required. Keep the letter and any test results to bring to your first specialist appointment.
Is private care always faster or better than public care?
Not necessarily. Private practice can offer more choice of doctor and scheduling flexibility, while the public system provides high standards of care and possible subsidies. The better choice depends on your condition, its urgency, your budget and your preferences rather than on cost alone.
Privacy and suggestions
What personal data do you collect when I contact you?
We only use the details you choose to send us — such as your message and email address — to respond to your enquiry. Please do not send sensitive health information or identification numbers, as we do not need them. Under the PDPA you may ask to access, correct or remove personal data we hold.
I suggested a clinic — why hasn’t it appeared?
Suggestions are reviewed against public sources, and inclusion is an editorial decision rather than an automatic one. A submission does not guarantee a listing, and it may take time before a page is reviewed and updated.
