How we chose

This is an editorial shortlist, not paid placement. We prioritise providers accredited by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) and listed on the Specialist Register where applicable, with relevant experience, genuine patient feedback and transparency about who treats you. We don’t publish a clinic’s rating or price unless we can verify it from a reliable source.

What a cardiologist treats and when to see one

Cardiologists diagnose and manage conditions of the heart and circulation — high blood pressure, high cholesterol, coronary artery disease, heart failure, valve disease and heart-rhythm disorders such as atrial fibrillation. Consider a review for chest pain or tightness, breathlessness on exertion, palpitations, fainting, or strong cardiovascular risk factors such as diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of early heart disease. Sudden chest pain, severe breathlessness or signs of a heart attack are emergencies and need immediate hospital care rather than a clinic appointment.

What to look for when choosing a cardiologist in Singapore

Check that the doctor is registered with the Singapore Medical Council (SMC) and listed on the Register of Specialists in cardiology. Depending on your needs, consider subspecialty focus — interventional cardiology, electrophysiology for rhythm problems, heart failure or structural heart disease — along with access to diagnostics such as echocardiography, stress testing and CT coronary angiography, and a hospital affiliation appropriate for any procedure you might need. A preventive emphasis, with attention to blood pressure, cholesterol and lifestyle, is valuable for long-term heart health.

Costs and financing

Consultations and basic tests are modest compared with procedures such as angioplasty and stenting. MediSave can be applied towards approved procedures and hospitalisation within set limits, and MediShield Life and Integrated Shield Plans help with larger inpatient bills. Ask for a written estimate covering consultation, investigations and any procedure, and confirm what your insurance and MediSave will cover before proceeding.
